We made calls on Amish people and I remember they could get into trouble for taking the magazines but we did have a few who did take them on occasion.

They Are Just Like The Amish (But with Electricity)
by OnTheWayOut ini was describing jehovah's witnesses to a family member who had no idea whatsoever about them.
i may be straightforward and describe things in terms i have learned since reading about cults, but i was not over the top in any way.
i was simply stating the facts in a way that did not try to put any positive spin on anything.. my family member said, "so they are basically the amish but with televisions and electricity.

Sickening Dilemma
by ItsMyLife ini would like to have your opinions on what i should do about a situation please.. i have recently discovered that a 'brother' in the congregation (which i no longer attend) is a child molester.
i've seen documentation from his psychiatrist dated a few years ago, stating that he doesn't feel that this person is likely to offend again.
the 'brother' has said to the elders at some point that he has it under control but cannot be 100% sure it won't happen again.

I wish you the best right now. I feel you need to be careful and I would do it all without revelaling who you are. You don't want to be accused of slander or sued by them even though you saw proff of it. If you don't have the paperwork and just read the report, it could be your word against theirs. I would definitely notify the authorities and the sister who plans to marry him but do it in a letter without your name. I would also write the body of elders and let them know you are aware of what brother pervert did and it was reported to the police and you will let others know in the congregation what he did to children. You can do all of this undercover without trekking them who you are. I would even take it a step further and send every publisher a form letter tell the story go thid pedifil and I woul mail these letters to their homes and they will never have any idea it was you that sent everything out. Just use rubber gloves to type up yhe letters so you leave no finger prints for then to trace it back to you. Protect your self and those children and the sister. L. Please keep us informed so we know howvitbturns out!

I too live near an Amish community. I started reading books about the Amish, FLDS Mormons and Scientologist. I started to see how similar the JW's are to these religions and this is what started me on my way to waking up. It made me see how much alike they all are because they are all cults and use shunning and mind ccontrol.

That is a joke! They will not spend that much money during those weekends. I live in an area that hasn't been hit as hard by the economy as the rest of the country and there are very few JW's that go out to eat after an assembly or SD. They are told to bring their lunch and not go to a restraunt during lunch but stay in and socialize. After the program most go directly home with a few going out to dinner on the second night.

by nolongerconfused inyesterday's watchtower study was the last straw for me...as you all have probably seen the post before me, here's the quote that did it for me.

paragraph 16 - "in accord with jehovahs's will, christian elders have been entrusted with the responsibility of wrongdoing in the congregation.

I am happy for you! I hope you will be able to get your wife out too. I too suggest Steve Hassen's books so it will help you and then it will help you get her out. It feels good to be free!!

My Jw mother hates me and always has
by 20yearfader ini just need to vent, you see i was a born in.it's taken me 20 years after fading from the org to finally get my mind free from the wt dogma.i was on the phone with my aunt today and the subject of my mother her older sister came up.now mind you i haven't spoken to my mother in a month or so after my daughter stayed the weekend at her house and she was being tag teamed about the hall and how i took a vow to jehovah and i'm a failure and i'll be destroyed at armagedon.this exchange upset my daughter so much that she was near the point of tears when she returned home and she hasnt spoken to my mother or father since.anyway back to the conversation with my aunt, she let it slip that my mother told her that she wished she had let the seamen that fertilized the egg that produced me had slid down her legnno bear in mind i can remember as a child running into her room playing and she would say to me as a 7 year old child "i wished i had left you in oblivion"this is one of many such saying my mother had for me......i wasn't a bad child i just wasn't allowed to do anything such as going outside going over a friends house....etc,i have struggled for years as to why this woman hates me so.i got baptized at 15 really as a way of pleasing them what the hell does a child know at 15??
?granted it took me some time to get myself together and put those hurtful comments in the past, but today when my aunt let it slip about what my mother has said about me it was like pulling a scap off of a wound.my wife always complains about how im emotionless and distance, this was done by me as a way of protecting myself.so i've decided and i hate to say this that my christian god fearing parents...are dead to me there is no way i can have a relationship with people that are so wicked and since she never wanted me anyway....it works out for the best thx i just needed to vent i felt like i was going to pop..

Your story made my heart hurt. It is hard when you don't receive the love you need from a parent. You have to do what is best for you, your wife and daughter. I too would recommend therapy if you find it is hard to move on in your life. Hang in there!

We had a elder and his wife pop in awhile ago and the person knows our garage door code and they opened up the door and started to open up the door into the house when my husband went to the door to see what is going on. They were coming into our house because they wanted to use the bathroom and drop off magazines! We were not happy about it so the next week he shut the power off the doors so they couldn't get in. To me this was really rude coming into someone's unannounced.
